At only a five minute drive to the pretty seaside town of Criccieth, there are a number of reasons to visit including the wonderful beach, Criccieth Castle and a host of restaurants and cafes. Visiting Criccieth Castle's hilltop location provides spectacular views of the surrounding coastline and mountains. Originally built in the 1230's, the castle was modified numerous times over the years and the impressive twin towers of the gatehouse still remain to this day. Stop into Cadwalader's for some fantastic ice cream with views out to sea, or for something more substantial head to Dylan's Restaurant sitting alongside the beach in a stunning art deco building, before spending some time on the beach.
The nearby sweeping coastline provides numerous long sandy beaches including Morfa Bychan Beach where you can drive the car and park up right on the sand. From Chester and the North West: Heading west along the A55 North Wales Expressway From Caernarfon
Head south from Caernarfon on the A4871 towards Pwllheli and at the second roundabout take a right turn onto the A487 (Caernarfon Bypass). Continue on the A487 for thirteen miles and after passing Tafarn yr Afr on the left, take a right turn onto the B4411 towards Criccieth. Stay on the B4411 for two miles and when reaching the village of Rhoslan, you'll find Maes-Y-Caerau located on the right-hand side of the road, just after the 40 miles an hour sign.
From Porthmadog
Head north from Porthmadog on High Street and at the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A487 towards Caernarfon. Continue along the A487 for six miles and then take a left turn onto the B4411 towards Criccieth. Stay on the B4411 for two miles and when reaching the village of Rhoslan, just before the national speed limit sign, you will find Maes-Y-Caerau located on the left.
