The use of natural materials and local skilled craftsmen has resulted in a renovation that is both sympathetic and imaginative. A beautifully painted hand made ledge and brace panelled door leads you into the large open plan living area. High vaulted ceilings are supported by impressive welsh green oak king trusses. Large comfortable sofas sit on a gently heated slate floor. A central log fire provides the perfect focus point for the room whilst the obligatory digital TV sits more subtly off to one side.
At the other end of the room some beautiful hand made oak units house modern kitchen appliances. These in turn are topped with a luxurious marble worktop complete with inset sink. A round mahogany dining table and country dining chairs completes this most romantic of spaces.
From here we walk through into the bedroom. The use of natural materials combined with an elegant choice of colours is continued. A single window with views of the surrounding countryside is decorated with flowers freshly picked from the garden. A handsome oak bed is accompanied by matching oak side tables and expensive Jim Lawrence wall lights.
The adjoining bathroom also houses a top of the range Mira shower in a wonderful wood enclosure. An elegant oval washbasin sits on a marble shelf under a simple chrome mixer tap.
Visitors to the cottage have their own private courtyard area but guests are also very much encouraged to make use of the adjoining shared garden. A labour of love for owners Frank and Jane the garden includes a large lawned area surrounded, mature flowerbeds, a more formal parterre section and last but not least, a very exiting vegetable patch.
A lovely village pub only a short walk from the barn and the village itself has won many ‘tidiest village awards’. You will find a post office and general store in next village Tal y Bont and Bodnant Farm shop in Tal y Cafn. Walkers and mountain bikers have lots of opportunities with routes heading up the Carneddau mountains as well as less strenuous paths along the river accessible direct from the doorstep.
Jump in the car and within 10 minutes guests can be strolling the streets of the medieval walled town of Conwy. Or if in the summer you may prefer to stroll along the promenade of the ever-popular seaside town of Llandudno.
Llanberis and the slopes of Snowdon are about 15 minutes to the southwest and along the way you’ll past the longest zip line in the world at Bethesda and the world-renowned Plas Menai National Watersports center near Caernarfon.
On the way back home, you if you had some energy left, you might like to do some mountain biking on the Marian Trail in Betws Y Coed or perhaps spend a more relaxed afternoon strolling the magnificent grounds at Bodnant Gardens.

From the A55 take either junction 17 (from West) or 18 (from East) into Conwy. At the mini-roundabout besides the castle, take the B5106 Llanrwst Road and continue along this for approximately 3 miles. Turn right immediately past the Groes Hotel and continue for approximately 2 miles to Rowen. Go past the Tir y Coed Hotel as the road bends right into the village. After a short distance, you will see the Ty Gwyn Hotel on the right. Turn right down the short lane immediately beside the Ty Gwyn and continue until you see a wide entrance and the nameplate for Llanerch y Felin and the Barn is on your left. Turn into the drive and park on the right of the large parking area.
