This luxury barn conversion on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) offers spectacular holiday accommodation in a truly unique location. A wonderful example of a traditional stone built barn transformed into a 2 bedroom self catering cottage situated on the western slopes of Yr-Wyddfa itself. The decor and fixtures on the inside are outdone only by the spectacular landscape on the outside.
The spacious elongated open plan living area has, at its southern end, a well equipped kitchen with hand painted fitted units under a granite worktop. A welcoming log burner flanked by two comfortable leather sofas takes up the other end of the room. A central dining area sits in front of double glazed french doors that lead out onto a small patio and spectacular views of the Nantlle ridge on the far side of the valley. These doors, combined with the solid oak flooring and high vaulted ceiling help create a sense of light and space to match the landscape and completes this wonderfully social living space.
There are two bedrooms in the second half of the barn. The first has two victorian style iron single beds bedecked with cream duvets topped with traditional welsh woven blankets. The second master bedroom houses a king sized bed and has the added luxury of a tiled en-suite shower room with washbasin and wc.
Finally a large family bathroom has a shower over bath arrangement in addition to a second wc and washbasin.
The great thing about staying on a working farm on Yr Wyddfa is that you have your own private access to the summit. The famous Yr Wyddfa Ranger path and Rhyd Ddu path flank both sides of the farm however and, less experienced walkers, might prefer to use these well marked routes to ascend the tallest peak in England and Wales.
Another highlight of this location is the Welsh Highland Steam railway that fights it’s way from the historic castle town of Caernarfon to the north down to the Harbour of Porthmadog to the south. Stopping off at the nearby Rhyd Ddu station as well as Beddgelert and Pont Croesor this most picturesque narrow gauge track is a fantastic way of exploring and enjoying the surrounding countryside.
Just the one pub in the village, but luckily the Cwellyn arms is fantastic and offers a great selection of real ales and home cooked meals. The village also has a lovely tearoom. Ty Mawr is most famous for it’s pancakes perhaps but also serves a delicious cooked breakfast if your feeling a little lazy one morning and, if you pre order they’ll even prepare a packed lunch for later on in the day for you.
All the usual activities associated with North Wales are within easy reach including fishing, horse riding, mountain biking and rock climbing.
