Clogwyn-Bach, two bedroom holiday cottage at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), is the perfect walkers’ holiday cottage. A traditional quarryman’s cottage ideally placed for walkers, mountain bikers and hikers in the heart of the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park.
You’ll find it in the village of Rhyd Ddu at the foot of Cymru’s highest peak. If you’re familiar with Eryri you might know that the village has given its name to one of the nicest routes up Yr Wyddfa (the same route used to be called the Beddgelert Path). Walk to the top of the mountain straight out of your back door.
This is a traditional quarryman’s cottage (Rhyd Ddu is a 19th century slate quarry village) and so the accommodation is cosy and comfortable, which has been totally refurbished to a high standard. A wood burning stove and exposed beams give the living room plenty of character, and a galley kitchen comes equipped with washing machine, electric hob, oven and fridge freezer.
The cottage sleeps up to three people in one double and one single bedroom. There is a shared bathroom with bath and shower attachment - all really beautifully presented.
You’ll find Clogwyn-Bach in the village of Rhyd Ddu at the foot of Yr Wyddfa. Rhyd Ddu is a friendly little village that comes complete with a traditional real ale pub (and a very decent menu) as well as wonderful mountain views. The perfect walkers’ holiday cottage at the foot of Yr Wyddfa.
The Rhyd Ddu Path (there is a private gate from the cottage) is probably one of the least touristy routes to the top of Yr Wyddfa, and so this cute little cottage is a great choice for keen walkers and explorers who like to stray a little off the beaten track. It’s also a great location if you’d like to tackle Moel Hebog, Yr Aran or the Nantlle Ridge.
The Welsh Highland Railway stops at the station in the village and will huff and puff you to Caernarfon in one direction and Porthmadog in the other. Whatever you do to work up your appetite, there is a lovely tea room for your morning coffee or afternoon tea and cake right opposite the cottage, packed lunches are also available by arrangement..
Rhyd Ddu is close to some of Eryri 's nicest towns and villages including Beddgelert, Betws-y-Coed and Llanberis. Stand out attractions include Zip World, Antur Stiniog downhill mountain biking and The Slate Caverns at Llechwedd – home to a deep mine tour, Zip Caverns and Bounce Below.
More traditional attractions include Caernarfon awe-inspiring 13th century fortress and the Italianate village of Portmeirion. Rhyd Ddu is a great base for exploring Eryri.
