Ysgubor-y-Coed is a traditional farm holiday cottage near Betws-y-Coed in Eryri (Snowdonia), North Wales. This beautifully presented cottage is the ideal getaway for couples or families.
Recently renovated, this traditional Welsh stone cottage offers high quality accommodation as well as a window (or several) on to farming life in North Wales. You can expect a warm Welsh welcome in what is an idyllic rural location.
The friendly family who run the smallholding here look after piglets, lambs and chickens, and you’ll see the animals enjoying free-range life in the fields around the cottage. There are two other lovely holiday cottages – Hafod-y-Coed and Stabal y Coed – on the same farm, and all three cottages sleep 4 guests each.
An oak front door opens into the open plan ground floor living space of the cottage. It has been renovated to the highest standards using local materials, including Welsh slate flooring throughout which benefits from underfloor heating courtesy of an eco-friendly hydro-electric system.
Exposed oak beams and feature frames around the recessed windows add warmth to what is a light and airy space. A woodburning stove is a focal point in the corner of the living area which has enough comfortable seating for everyone to put their feet up.
A good sized oak dining table - which seats four - links the living area to the kitchen. The kitchen is spacious, bright and modern, and is well equipped including oven, hob, microwave and large fridge as well as a beautiful Welsh dresser.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double and one twin. The double has an en-suite bathroom, and there is a separate bathroom with bath and shower for the twin room. Oak doors, flooring and exposed beams give the bedrooms a lovely warmth. There are beautiful views of the farm and surrounding countryside from every window.
You’ll find the cottage on a farm smallholding near the ever-popular Eryri town of Betws-y-Coed. A farm stay is a great way to re-set your perspective on life. There’s something quite wonderful about waking up to the gentle soundtrack of the natural world. It’s an idyllic rural location.
North Wales is the UK capital for outdoor adventure and there is plenty to do right on the doorstep. Mountain biking, zip lining and underground adventures can all be enjoyed within a half hour drive from the cottage.
Historical and cultural attractions are also a big draw for a lot of our guests. Narrow gauge steam railways, historical industrial sites and ancient castles and fortifications are dotted all over this part of the world. The Capel Garmon Neolithic Burial Chamber is within walking distance of the cottage and is well worth a visit.
There are plenty of wonderful walking routes in this neck of the woods, Conwy Falls and Fairy Glen are favourites. Don’t miss the wonderful Clough Williams-Ellis designed Conwy Falls Café if you’re heading towards the falls. There are plenty of excellent places to eat and drink in the bustling town of Betws-y-Coed.
