This Gothic styled mansion near the beach in Llanbedrog was built in 1857 and was originally part of the famous Madryn estate. Now run as an art gallery by a charitable trust the rear wing of this impressive building has been lovingly converted into self-catering accommodation. Also on-site is an award winning cafe you must try! Don’t worry, the wing is quite private, you wont be one of the exhibits on show!

A private entrance opens up onto a large entrance hall with a wide staircase leading up to the accommodation. A stair lift is available for anyone with mobility difficulties. As we walk along the 1st floor corridor the first door on our right leads into the dining room. Towering sash widows and high vaulted ceilings ensure plenty of light and air. A spiral staircase leads up to a small balcony area with two extra single beds if required.

From here we can walk left into the kitchen. All the usual appliances including a washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. If we return back through the dining we can walk straight through into the lounge. The lounge is a bit smaller than the dining room but plenty of seating and that all-important TV.

The best thing about staying in the wing of an art gallery of course is the artwork that that is used to adorn the walls of the accommodation. A lovely collection of mostly local artists provides that extra touch of charm and fascination.

There are four bedrooms on this first floor. Two double rooms with en-suite shower rooms, and two twin rooms. One of the twin rooms has a shower cubicle and washbasin but no wc. Finally we have a family bathroom with a bath plus separate shower cubicle, wc and washbasin.

The grounds to the mansion are as impressive as the building itself. Although you will have to share these with gallery visitors up until 5pm when the gallery closes. Green lawns and picnic benches look out onto Cardigan bay and the mountains of Snowdonia. As short walk will lead you down to the golden sands of Llanbedrog beach famous for it’s colourful beach houses. Guests are also encouraged to explore the recently created footpaths that wind their way through the woodland next to the mansion. The main trail through the property forms part of the All Wales Coastal Pathway.

The ever popular and fashionable town of Abersoch is a short 5 minute drive away and has a great selection of pubs, restaurants and trendy shops. The larger harbour town of Pwllheli is 10 minutes in the other direction. The newly built marina has over 400 pontoon births including visitor births and hosts a number of national and international sailing events.

Llanbedrog is arguably one of the nicest beaches in North Wales but a short drive in the car will take you to lots of other hidden coves and small seaside villages. To the east, the mountains of Snowdonia are a natural home to an ever-growing number of adventure activity providers.
