This hidden gem in a remote mountain location is perfect for anyone keen to get away from it all. Nestled in a quiet valley high above the popular market town of Bala this beautiful stone cottage is the definition of quiet tranquillity. A steep private drive through fields of sheep leads up to this idyllic Welsh cottage. We pass a small wooden shed (where the washing machine and dryer is located) onto the slate gravel drive. I'll come back to the view later but the front door leads us into an open plan ground floor living space.

This end of the room we have some lovely freestanding kitchen units. Simple clean lines dotted with quality fixtures such as the deep stainless steel sink and the cast iron gas hob. Recently added - a large fridge. A reclaimed solid wood dining table sits to our left surrounded by traditional welsh country cottage chairs.

Slate floor tiles, complete with under floor heating, leads our eye down to the wonderful log burner sitting within the large inglenook at the other end of the room. The inglenook in turn is flanked by a brown leather sofa and matching armchairs. Carefully chosen ornaments and lighting enhance the rustic charm of this cosy space.

We turn back on ourselves to climb the painted white staircase up to the first floor. Straight ahead an oak ledge and brace door opens up onto a large bathroom. Clean white bathroom furniture with minimal fuss creates a space of simple elegance. A separate and large glass framed shower cubicle compliments a freestanding white ceramic bath sitting on marbled quarry tiles.

We cross the landing to the other end of the house to get to the bedroom. A central antique double bed is adorned with a modern mattress and sumptuous bedding. A dark wood chest of draws acts as a stand for a second flat digital tv and more storage space is afforded by a pastel set of drawers and simple clothes rail.

The best thing about this hidden gem is of course the location. With uninterrupted panoramic views of the quiet valley below guests are sure to spend a lot of their time sitting on the small patio next to the lawn. With only the occasional curious sheep to disturb your summer BBQ.

There are dozens of footpaths and trails that can be explored right from your front door of course but if you do decide to jump in the car and explore the area the market town of Bala is probably the most obvious destination. A charming example of a welsh market town and a wonderful mix of traditional welsh culture and contemporary shops and cafés. The surrounding area has long established itself as a Mecca for adventure activities. Fishing permits can be bought locally for Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) and the surrounding rivers. Sailing and windsurfing are other popular pursuits and white water rafting and kayaking can be enjoyed at the world renowned Tryweryn white water centre.

There are lots of small shops, cafes and restaurants in town as well as smaller independent activity providers.
