A quiet, rural village located on the beautiful west coast of the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, Dyffryn Ardudwy is home to a thriving farming community and is a popular holiday destination. The stunning mountain backdrop is dotted with generations-old Welsh hill farms.

This beautiful seaside holiday cottage in Dyffryn Ardudwy near Barmouth is also close to Pen Llyn, Harlech, Dolgellau, Porthmadog, Criccieth and Portmeirion. Flanked by the Rhinog mountains to the east and the Irish Sea to the west, you can expect epic sunsets and rugged, timeless landscapes.

Drive around ten minutes south from the cottage to get to Barmouth’s sandy Blue Flag beach which stretches for two miles and is perfect for picnics, swimming, paddling and surfing. There is traditional seaside fun along the promenade, and plenty of shops, cafés, restaurants, pubs and ice cream parlours.

A little further south beyond Barmouth will bring you to Dolgellau, home to the Coed Y Brenin mountain biking centre, where you can bring your own bike or hire one from the Beics Brenin visitor centre. There are eight trails ranging from blue to black, so something for the whole family. There are also excellent running and walking trails through the woods.

Harlech, which is around six miles to the north – is a short drive or a very pleasant walk along the Wales Coastal Path. Harlech is home to a clifftop UNESCO World Heritage Site medieval castle, and one of the best links golf courses in the UK at Royal St David’s. Its hills and winding lanes provide plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, and some great places to eat for a decent lunch, afternoon tea or dinner.

The coastline near Dyffryn Ardudwy is one of sandy dunes and marram grass. Your closest beach – Benar Beach – is around a mile, or a 15 minute walk away. It is a great place for a picnic and a paddle, but also a bit of a hidden gem for surfing and bodyboarding. Expect consistent rolling waves and beautiful views of the Gwynedd coastline stretching to the north and south.

There’s easy access to many of Eryri’s most popular attractions and destinations from this beautiful seaside holiday cottage in Dyffryn Ardudwy near Barmouth. They include Zip World, Bounce Below, and the Llechwedd Deep Mine experience at Blaenau Ffestiniog. The enchanting village of Portmeirion, with its Italianate follies, interesting shops, famous chinaware, cafés and beautiful gardens, is a 30 minute drive.

To kick off your local exploring, and to get a sense of the timelessness of these ancient landscapes, walk through the nearby Coed Cors y Gedol (Cors y Gedol Woodland) on the edge of the village to the prehistoric burial chamber at Cors y Gedol – it dates to somewhere between 4,200BC and 3,000BC. This is a really special place – the beautiful oak woodland - a ‘temperate rainforest’ - is a Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) and one of the most important woodland conservation areas in Europe.
