This traditional farmhouse accommodation in an idyllic setting comes with big views across green fields to hills and mountains beyond. Stylish, bright and smart, it sleeps up to six guests in three bedrooms – two doubles and one room with bunk beds.
If you’re hankering after a remote and totally private location, this beautiful holiday cottage could be the perfect match for you. Erw-Dinmael is a lovely Welsh farmhouse which occupies a central North Wales location and is perfectly placed for day trips to Llangollen, Bala, Betws y Coed, and Llandegla.
The cottage is nestled in the foothills of the Berwyn mountains, which run from Llangollen in the north, across to Bala in the west and Oswestry in the south. This is a quiet but beautiful corner of North Wales, ideal if you are looking for a relaxing holiday getaway that is slightly off the beaten track.
There are superb walking, cycling and wildlife watching opportunities straight from the front door. The surrounding landscapes are quite inspiring – if you are in anyway artistically inclined, pack your notebook, sketchbook, pencils and pens.
Open the front door into this traditional farmhouse accommodation in an idyllic setting and you’ll find a small hallway which is ideal for casting off boots, wellies and coats. From there, step left into the dining room with a handsome oak dining table and a cupboard nook with hatch pass into the kitchen. There is a stable style back door which opens into the garden.
The kitchen is bright and modern. Recently renovated, it comes with gas hob and electric oven, a dishwasher, large fridge freezer and microwave, plus plenty of pots, pans, utensils and storage space. The far-reaching views from the kitchen windows are superb.
The living room comes with original beamed ceiling, and a huge oak lintel over the fireplace. A large, inviting, and very comfortable ‘L’ shaped sofa is arranged around the toasty log fire. We love the winged leather armchair and deep recessed windows. The perfect spot to get cosy with a good book and a glass of something delicious.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, one double with en suite shower room, a second double which has a zip and link bed so it can be seperated into two single beds upon request, and a bunk bedroom, ideal if you are bringing children or grandchildren. The bedrooms are beautifully presented and very restful. There is a shared family bathroom with a bath and shower.
Outside of this traditional farmhouse accommodation in an idyllic setting is an enclosed garden, and a patio with dining table and chairs. A little piece of rural paradise, it is surrounded by rolling green fields dotted with grazing sheep. The Berwyn mountains lie beyond.
If you love big countryside views with a remote and totally private location, this traditional farmhouse accommodation in an idyllic setting could be the perfect match for you. Erw-Dinmael occupies a central North Wales location and is perfectly placed for day trips to Llangollen, Betws y Coed, Bala, and Llandegla.
The Berwyn mountains – which run from Llangollen in the north, down to Bala in the west and Oswestry in the south – stretch out before it. The views from the cottage are quite inspiring – if you are in any way artistically inclined, pack your notebook, sketchbook, pencils and pens.
The cottage is a 20-minute drive to Bala, or 40 minutes to Llangollen. The market town of Corwen, ancestral home of Owain Glyndwr, the last native-born prince of Wales, is just a 20-minute drive – check into Corwen’s small museum to find out more about Wales’s national hero. Just outside Corwen, you’ll find the Rhug Estate Organic Farm Shop and bistro – well worth a visit if you want to stock up with some of the region’s best local produce.
Bala is home to the largest natural lake in Wales, and a whole host of water sports including white water rafting, sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. There is a wonderful steam train which huffs and puffs passengers up and down the lakeside. And the town’s high street is well worth a visit too – if you like to sample local brews on your holidays, head to Stori Beers & Wines for an impressive selection of Welsh ales and gins.
Llangollen is a thriving town which is home to plenty of interesting shops, cafés and restaurants. One of our favourites haunts has to be the Corn Mill gastro pub in the centre of town – in suitable weather it’s well worth sitting out on the pub’s terrace which stands on stilts over the River Dee. The magnificent Pontcysyllte aqueduct is a short drive from Llangollen, as is the Valle Crucis Abbey. Or if you’re feeling energetic, walk up to the town’s atmospheric castle ruins, Dinas Brân.
The cottage is a half hour drive from Betws y Coed, also known as the gateway to the Snowdonia National Park. Again, Betws is a thriving town with plenty to do and see, from galleries and bistros to outdoor gear shops. Betws is surrounded by the Gwydir forest which is home to family-friendly cycle trails, as well as the big climbs and descents of the Gwydir Mawr a Bach / the Marin Trail – a must-do for any serious mountain bike fan. Slightly closer to the cottage, you’ll find superb trails to cycle at One Planet Adventure at Llandegla.
There are superb walking and wildlife watching opportunities straight from the front door. There’s a lovely short circular up the Pen y Pigyn hillside at Corwen, or try the North Berwyn Way, which climbs the wild mountains between Corwen and Llangollen, for a bit more of a challenge.
Nearby family-friendly attractions to this gorgeous stone cottage at the foot of the Berwyn mountains include Zip World Fforest with its forest zip safari and tree top nets (25 minutes), and Bounce Below, Llechwedd Slate Caverns and Zip World Titan (45 minutes).

DIRECTIONS: The post code won’t get you all the way to the house so directions from Cerrigydrudion which is the nearest village. If you are heading West on the A5 from Corwen towards Betws-y-Coed, at Cerrigydrudion you turn left off the A5 signed to Cwmpennanar. You immediately go down a dip and as you come up the other side take the first proper turning to the left by a cottage (it’s not signed to anywhere). Keep on this lane all the way to the top – it’s just over 2 miles. If you are using the postcode for directions, it will take you half way up the hill. You should keep going! At the top you come to a tiny cross roads (there are some wind turbines set back to your left). Turn right through the gate (which may be shut). Go down the hill until you come to another gate with a cattle grid behind it (do NOT take the track to the right before you get to the gate). Once through the gate you will drop down the hill and over another cattle grid. You then bend to your right and the house is at the end.
