Hendre is a traditional farmhouse holiday cottage in a quiet location near the wonderful seaside town of Criccieth in North Wales. A peaceful and tranquil setting but only a short drive to all the fun and activities that Eryri Snowdonia has to offer.
This 3 bedroom stone farmhouse (and a small disused barn) is at the end of a long private drive. Mature shrubs and garden surround the cottage but we’ll start by walking through the front door into the kitchen diner. Like all the rooms in the house this is a very generously sized room. A large pine table and matching chairs sits on a tiled floor overlooked by a traditional welsh dresser. All the tableware is of the finest Portmeirion crockery. Solid oak kitchen units line the far end of the room covered with a granite worktop with matching tiles.
We duck under the low doorway to get into the original part of the house and the sitting room. A welcoming log fire sits within the original inglenook fireplace at one end of the room. Plenty of comfortable chairs and sofas and lots of room for the whole family to spread out in.
Before heading up stairs the cottage has one more bonus room. A small wooden sauna brings the best of Scandinavia to this traditional welsh farmhouse. The essential shower cubicle stands next to the sauna.
Three bedrooms upstairs. Two doubles and a twin. All the bedrooms are, again, very generous and both double bedrooms have large en-suite bathrooms. There is also a single family bathroom for the twin room.
The house benefits from a small patio area with outdoor furniture and two separate lawned areas with mature shrubs along the boarders. The surrounding fields of pasture and trees are dotted with the occasional cow or sheep.
The seaside town of Criccieth is about 5 minutes away in the car and is the home of the famous Cadwalders ice cream parlour. The perfect compliment to a walk along the beach or a tour of the historic Criccieth castle.
The harbour town of Pwllheli is a little further to the west, a lively bustling town in summer with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. A little further along the coast brings you to the fashionable village of Abersoch. More golden beaches and more pubs and restaurants.
A short drive to the east will bring to the mountains of Eryri. Cwm Pennant and a climb up the Nantlle Ridge is one of the hidden gems of the National Park and is easily reached from the cottage. Walkers might also enjoy the newly established Welsh Coastal Path. The sections near this cottage must be among the most picturesque of this 870 mile long uninterrupted route along the welsh coastline.
Lots of activities in the area. Traditional pastimes such as golf, horse-riding and steam train trips. Family days out at the nearby Dwyfor Ranch Pet Farm or Glasfryn Park adventure centre. And also more breath taking attractions such as zip line rides and mountain biking.
