This beautiful barn has been converted into a very handsome holiday cottage in wild Eryri (Snowdonia). Here a traditional welsh long barn as well as the main farmhouse nearby provides idyllic holiday accommodation for guests wanting to escape the hassle of modern life.
The barn has 4 bedrooms and can comfortably sleep up to 8 people. The conversion is imaginative and well thought out. Bedrooms are spacious and the open plan design of the living area creates a wonderfully sociable environment.
From the entrance hallway we turn left into the living area. This huge open plan area comprises lounge, dining and kitchen areas. The lounge houses some comfortable leather sofas, a modern flat screen TV as well as a warming log fire. Overhead a suspended walkway connects the first floor bedrooms whilst preserving the sense of space afforded by vaulted ceilings.
The dining area comes next. A wooden table surrounded by eight country cottage chairs is overlooked by a traditional welsh dresser. And from here we walk through to the kitchen area. All the appliances you could ask for are included. Fridge, freezer, dishwasher etc. are all there. The washer dryer is housed in the adjoining utility room.
Returning across the entrance hallway we have a very spacious ground floor twin room. The adjoining bathroom with shower and wc ensures that any guests with mobility problems can be comfortably accommodated.
An open tread wooden staircase takes us to the three first floor bedrooms. One double room and one twin room occupy the southern end of the barn. That suspended walkway then takes us across to another spacious double bedroom and a luxurious bathroom. The bathroom has a wc, bath and separate shower cubicle. All the bedrooms are immaculately clean and tidy and a modern central heating system ensures guests feel warm and cosy even in the depths of winter.
There is also a great games room with pool table, table football and a giant connect four.
A short 3 minute drive will bring you to lake Cwellyn car park. The famous Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) Ranger path up Yr Wyddfa starts here. This westerly route up the mountain is often favoured by more experience walkers to the busier eastern routes on the other side of the mountain.
A little further is the next village of Rhyd Ddu. Another pub, another route up Yr Wyddfa plus the opportunity to jump on the Welsh Highland Railway, a narrow gauge steam railway that runs between the larger towns of Porthmadog and Caernarfon, along, what must be, one of the most picturesque railway routes in the world.
Caernarfon is about 6 miles away from the cottage to the North (15 mins in the car). The famous castle is a natural ‘must do’ but lots of shops, cafes and restaurants are also there. 15 miles to the south is the bustling seaside town of Porthmadog. Again, plenty of shopping opportunities as well as the popular sandy beaches of Borth Y Guest and Black Rock.
From this property, you can access all trails of Snowdon within a 30-minute drive.
The fastest zip line in the world, internationally renowned white water rafting and premier down hill mountain biking are just some of the more adrenaline enducing activities also available in the area.
